@Bristol, the interactive science museum on the waterfront, is currently looking for volunteers, and has set up a new project with SCA. There is a whole range of volunteer opportunities within @Bristol, ranging from helping assist in workshops with schools, helping on weekends with Brownies and Cubs day, admin and PR. Currently they are specifically looking for students to volunteer within their ‘Learning team’ - volunteering in the schools workshops at various times throughout the week.

Breast Health Awareness

Every day 125 women get diagnosed with breast cancer everyday. This is a very shocking fact. However, if caught early, the breast cancer is likely to be not serious and more easy to treat. This is easily done if women are aware of the health of their breasts and how to quickly detect abnormal changes. Unfortunately, not many women know what to look for and often are not breast aware.

Our group aims to raise awareness of breast health among women of all ages and to fundraise for breast cancer. We will be visiting halls of residence every weekend running sessions about breast health to students, hopefully extending these to the public. We also have planned fun events fundraising for breast cancer and we want you to join in!

Become a Hall Rep

If you are a first year in halls or a student house why not become an SCA Hall Rep. You can organise fundraisers for SCA in hall or be involved in publicising the latest event. It is a really good experience and a responsibility in hall that will put you in good stead for the future.

Thursday 6^th November from 6:30-8:30pm

SCA’s training programme is now ready to go! Check it out here, and sign up online now!
New volunteers must attend volunteer induction, and there are also training sessions for specific projects. You can sign up by logging into the COBS website, and clicking on ‘Book Courses’. You will find ‘Volunteer Training’ under the ‘Student Development Unit’ section.

Big Give was a big success!

Thanks to all who donated their unwanted items to the Big Give last term! In total over 5 tonnes of stuff was collected, sorted and delivered to a good home.

Some great news regarding funding! The Alumni Foundation has accepted all our funding applications, so we now have money for:

The Pitstop summer trip
New games for the toy cupboard
A kettle and coffee and tea jars for Daycentre
Maybe a new sofa for the SCA office!
