Events

SCA events take place throughout the year. Unlike projects, they are one-off rather than regular throughout the year. They generally come in two varieties:

  • Volunteering (but on a larger scale!)
    • A chance for guests and volunteers from lots of different projects to join together for one big party
  • Fundraising
    • Raising money either for SCA or for a particular project, and raising awareness of SCA in general

Intro Night

As the first event of the year, the SCA intro night gives an opportunity for students interested in volunteering to come along, meet the coordinators of the various volunteering projects that SCA offers, and sign up! Photos from intro night ‘07-’08.

Kids’ Christmas Party (volunteering)

Churchill Hall, 120 kids, 80 volunteers, Father Christmas, games, food, Bristol Zoo, the bouncy castle… Don’t miss it!

SCA Week (fundraisers and volunteering)

Random events and publicity stunts to help raise awareness of SCA, and celebrate what we do. Do you have an idea? It can be as big or as small as you like. E-mail it to ubu-sca@bristol.ac.uk.

Speed Dating (fundraiser)

Since 2004 this has a firm favourite with students and a regular event in the SCA calendar. Find your true love in a 3 minute date across an exam table! It’s a lot of fun, lots of SCA volunteers and other students attend so it’s a great way to tell people about SCA. Photos from speed dating ‘07-’08.

Pub Quiz (fundraiser)

A new fundraising event for SCA last year, the pub quiz was a big success. Pit your wits against some of the nation’s finest minds! Photos from the pub quiz ‘07-’08.

Sponsored Sleep Out (fundraiser)

Hardy students brave the union car park for a night to raise money for the Julian Trust Nightshelter, where the SCA nightshelter project volunteers. Photos from the sleep out ‘07-’08.

Dinner Dance (volunteering)

oSCArs (party!)

Our end-of-year celebration of the achievements of all SCA volunteers. A glitzy party with free food and drink and plenty of fun!

Other Volunteering Events

SCA are often involved in various other one-off volunteering events that take place during the course of the year. Last year these included Science Alive! and the Big Beach Clean.
